HOUSTON A Flash Flood Watch has expired and the weather should be rain-free for evening Halloween activities, KHOU 11 News Meteorologist David Paul said.
We are still seeing many reports of high water on streets, especially south of Interstate 10, but so far, no homes or businesses are threatened, he said.
The rain will come to an end as we head toward sunset and it should be a rain-free evening for trick-or-treaters.
CenterPoint Energy reported that, at one point, nearly 20,000 customers were without power. Hunstville I.S.D. delayed the start of classes Thursday by two hours, and Shepherd I.S.D. cancelled classes entirely. Houston I.S.D. has cancelled all after-school activities Thursday.
Several communities north of Houston received more than three inches of rain in the early morning hours, and a downed tree blocked FM-2100 in both directions at Blue Lake Drive in Huffman. Downed trees also landed on a man s home in Huffman. He said one of the trees crashed into his bedroom, but neither he, nor his dog were injured.
Flooding was reported on several roads in the City of Houston, and the University of Houston warned students to avoid several high water locations near campus.
According to Houston Transtar on Thursday morning flooding was reported along the E. SamHouston Tollway at Spencer, I-10 East at Lockwood, I-45 Gulf at South Loop, 610 East at Clinton, and I-45 northbound at SH-242.
The Houston Office of Emergency Management asked residents and businesses experiencing street or structure flooding to call Houston s 311 hotline (713-837-0311).
KHOU 11 News Meteorologist Chita Johnson said by the time the rain clears out later, some parts of town will have received six to eight inches of rain.
On Friday the skies will clear out, leaving us with nice daytime temps in the mid-70s for the weekend. Starting Friday into Saturday, our overnight lows will be in the low-50s.
