HOUSTON A man surrendered to police Monday in the parking lot of a south Houston gas station following a 30-minute chase that started in southwest Houston.

The chase began Monday around 11:15 a.m. after a traffic stop near Glen Meadow and South Rice. Police said the man s license plate came back as suspicious and officers also noticed suspicious items in the man s car. The officer also said he smelled PCP in the car. They said that s when the suspect took off.

Air 11 video showed several police cars in pursuit of a green Chevy Lumina. Police said the man tossed drug paraphernalia out the vehicle during the chase.

The man eventually stopped around 11:45 a.m. at the Buzzy Bee gas station located on South Post Oak at the Beltway.

Police said 34-year-old Phillip Joseph Rogers faces several charges, including felony evading and felony possession of a controlled substance.

Officers went back along the chase route to collect evidence that was thrown out of the vehicle during the chase, police said.
