HOUSTON The startup HBU football program will play its first-ever home game when it hosts Oklahoma Baptist, another startup program, on Family Weekend Saturday.
The game will take place on September 28, at 7 p.m. at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory s Crusader Stadium.
The Huskies (1-1) are led by freshman quarterback Ka Darius Baker, who completed 17-of-24 passes for 284 yards and a pair of touchdowns in HBU s 52-28 victory at Wayland Baptist on Sept. 14. Freshman running back B.J. Kelly rushed for 182 yards and touchdown and leads the Huskies with 336 all-purpose yards, while freshman Craig Bell Jr. had 87 yards and ran for three scores against the Pioneers. Junior Darian Lazard leads the receiving corps with nine catches for 124 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown, which is the Huskies longest play from scrimmage this season. Terrell Brown III leads the defense with 16.0 tackles, including a sack. Cody Moncure has 11.5 tackles, while Garrett Dolan has 10.5.
Oklahoma Baptist (0-3) is still searching for its first victory, but each of its three losses has been decided by a single-digit margin. Quarterback Cale Grauer has thrown for 490 yards and six touchdowns, but has also thrown five interceptions. Running back Jordan Barnes leads the Bison on the ground with 32 carries for 162 yards, while Derek Serowski has eight catches for 163 yards and a pair of touchdowns. OBU s leading tackler, Eugene Estes has made 20 stops on the season and will be making his return home to the Houston area.
Next up for the Huskies will be a clash with future Southland Conference rival Abilene Christian Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at BBVA Compass Stadium. The game will be televised live on CSN Houston.
