HOUSTON Houston police have arrested the man accused of shooting and killing an off-duty Houston Fire Department inspector Monday during a domestic incident in north Houston.
Houston Police Department officers spotted Alain Bell driving in the 2600 block of the South Loop West at about 3 p.m. Tuesday. Bell fled frompolice officers for a short distance before being taken into custody without further incident, police said.
Investigators said Bell shot David Stoneham at about 9:50 a.m. in the 500 block of Troy after Stoneham pulled up to his house with his 17-year-old daughter.
The daughter had gotten out the vehicle and walked inside the garage.
Next thing she knows, moments later, is that she hears what sounds like a shot gun racking, said HPD Public Information Officer John Cannon. And then just moments after that, she hears two shots and sees her stepfather shoot her father at point-blank range.
Witnessed said they heard gun shots before the suspect fled in a black Chevy pickup truck.
It was really, really loud. And that s what scared me so much, said Linda Walker. By the time I got to the living room, I heard the second shot.
The 55-year-old victim was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead.HFD officials said the victim began his career with the Houston Fire Department in 1980 and was promoted to inspector in 1999.
Detectives still don t know the motive, but said there was some kind of an on-going dispute between the men.
Bell was charged with murder in the 183rd State District Court.
