HOUSTON - A Houston Police Department SWAT team safely ended a standoff outside a northwest side home late Tuesday.
The standoff was reported on Northfield Lane near Hempstead Highway.
It was around 6:30 p.m. when a female resident grabbed a gun from a family member and threatened to kill herself, police said. The relatives called 911, but the woman refused to come outside.
After several hours of attempting to communicate with her, officers used a battering ram to break in one of the windows. The woman then came outside waving the gun around, HPD said.
A SWAT officer used a bean bag round to take down the woman without serious injury. She was then taken into custody and sent to a psychiatric hospital.
The standoff came to an end just before midnight.
