HOUSTON - A police officer fired his gun Saturday afternoon in southeast Houston, but apparently missed the suspect he was aiming for.

The incident happened at about 4:45 p.m. in the 9400 block of Cullen. The officer had tried to pull over a male driver for an expired license plate, but the man got out and ran.

Police said the man pointed a gun at the officer, who told the suspect repeatedly to drop the weapon.

Fearing for his safety, the officer shot at the man, but missed. The suspect took off running and jumped into a black Chevy Impala that had pulled up.

Police are still searching for the suspect.
