HOUSTON - A killer was on the run early Tuesday after a man was shot to death in a quiet neighborhood on the eastern edge of The Heights, police said.

It was around 10:30 p.m. Monday when residents on Tabor at Pecore heard gunshots and called 911, officers with the Houston Police Department said.

Police found a dead male, age 27, in the street with a gunshot wound to the head.

We have a couple of witnesses, said police spokesman Mark Condon. We re looking into a few leads but nothing substantial right now.

Witnesses told police they saw a dark brown two-door Toyota leaving the scene.

I am shocked, said neighbor Ken Fornof. It's a real surprise to me.

It's a real nice community, too, said another resident. People are nice and friendly here. It's shocking.

Anyone with information can call HPD Homicide at 713-308-3600.
