HOUSTON SpringSpirit Baseball hosted their third annual Breakfast for Champions Tuesday morning at the River Oaks Country Club with former MLB pitcher and cancer survivor Dave Dravecky as the guest speaker.

The event is meant to help raise operating funds for SpringSpirit Baseball, a faith-based non-profit organization aimed at creating a community facility and programs benefiting underserved youth in Spring Branch.

With the program, organizers focus on providing safe pathways for youth to realize life opportunities through sports, education and mentoring programs based on Christian principles.

KHOU 11 News Anchor Shern-min Chow served as the emcee, while current Texas Rangers and former Houston Astros baseball player Lance Berkman and his wife Cara served as honorary co-chairs for the event.

About 500 attended the breakfast with the goal of raising funds for a multi-million dollar baseball facility on Pitner Road, which includes two youth multi-purpose fields, a covered pavilion and training facilities.

According to the non-profit s website, the first phase of construction on the SpringSpirit Baseball Sports and Educational Complex is complete. The facility officially opened on March 31 with a community carnival and baseball clinic.

KHOU 11 Sports Anchors Butch Alsandor and Matt Musil and News Anchor Greg Hurst were also notable guests at the breakfast.

Melissa and Kenny Baldwin and Aimee and Wynne Snoots co-chaired the Tuesday s event.
