SAN ANTONIO, Texas-- Neighbors and political parties are speaking out after a San Antonio man echoed a political statement by hanging a chair from a tree in the front yard of his Castle Hills home.

The chair statement gained national attention after a man in Austin hung a one in his front yard earlier this week. On Friday afternoon, neighbors in the 1500 block of Larkspur saw the same message.

The chair, as interpreted by neighbors and political pundits, represents President Barack Obama -- a connection Clint Eastwood made during his rambling empty chair speech at the Republican National Convention last month.

The Castle Hills homeowner, who refused to appear on camera, said he hung the chair support of the Austin resident and as a stance against Obama. He said it was not meant to be racist.

The chair has since been taken down.

Do I agree with it? No, said Matthew Pina, who lives nearby.

A lot of times we need to, as citizens, look back and see what actions we re doing that affect not only ourselves, but the people around us as well, Pina said.

However, Pina and several other neighbors agreed that it may look bad, but it's also the neighbor's right as an American.

In this country we have freedom of speech and it s a very precious right we have. And if you agree with him or don t agree with him, you have to agree he has a right to do it, said neighbor Bob Ratliff.

I don't agree with it necessarily and I don't agree with the way he did it, but I think we have the ability to express our views as we see fit, said neighbor Chris Patacsil.

The Bexar County Republican party issued this statement to KENS 5: People can argue over the effectiveness of the chosen method for communicating an opinion, but you cannot deny the citizen s right to choose his own manner of expression.

The Bexar County Democratic party also issued a statement on the chair: It represents hate, intolerance, and the worst times in our nation s history.
