RICHMOND, Texas Two suspects have been charged with shooting a teenager and his father in Richmond over the weekend.

The victims, whose names have not been released, were visiting from Baytown early Saturday. They were sitting in a backyard in the 1000 block of Rufus when bullets suddenly started flying.

Someone had opened fire on a group playing a dice game next door. The 14-year-old boy and his 36-year-old father were struck by stray bullets. Both were taken to Oak Bend Medical Center where they were treated for non-life threatening wounds

No one else was hurt.

Witnesses told police the gunmen fled in a blue Buick. Officers spotted a vehicle matching that description in the Walmart at 5330 FM 1640. When officers approached, both suspects jumped out of the car and fled on foot.

Police say Reginald Washington, 25, hopped into a blue SUV parked at the Walmart. He was arrested and taken into custody.

The other suspect, 31-year-old Timothy Chatmon, ran to a nearby Whataburger and carjacked a vehicle in the drive-through lane. He ordered the driver to take off, but police were right behind them. After a brief chase, officers stopped the vehicle in the 5200 block of Harwood in Rosenberg.

Washington and Chatmon are both charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm and evading arrest.

Chatmon is also charged with aggravated kidnapping in connection with the Whataburger carjacking. He was wanted in Harris County for a failing to register as a sex offender.

Both suspects are being held at the Fort Bend County Jail awaiting bond.
