HOUSTON Hundreds of local bargain-hunters are now a part of history, having stopped by one of the most anticipated high end-tag sales ever held in the Bayou City.
Former Houston Mayor Bob Lanier and his socialite wife, Elyse, are downsizing, and they re selling a lot of their stuff.
I enjoy going to estate sales you pick up some really good deals on antiques and things like that and it should have pretty good value being Lanier s stuff, said Tony Allen, as he waited in an hour-long line to get in.
Judy Robinson Appraisals & Estate Sales set up shop in a suite at the Houston Design Center in west Houston for the event.
Robinson told KHOU 11 News that the Laniers are downsizing from a 14,000 square-foot River Oaks mansion to a 4,000 square-foot townhome.
A lot of stuff must go.
It could be an hour, but I m an old Houstonian and the Laniers were good people here. The mayor was very good, said shopper Gail Smith. I m buying a part of history. If I get anything maybe for something for like $10, I ll think of the Laniers and them in their new high-rise.
As a crowd wrapped around the second floor of the Houston Design Center, dozens of shoppers were inside the designated suite, looking at everything from furniture to sunglasses to china.
It was serious business. Shoppers came focused and ready to get a good deal.
I wanted those dishes, but someone beat me to it, said shopper Janice Brinsfield. Be patient.
The high-end tag sale runs through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
