HOUSTON Two small children who were left alone in a minivan Saturday were temporarily removed from their parents Tuesday night and placed into emergency foster care, Child Protective Services confirmed.

Questions about the 5-month-old boy and his 17-month-old sister surfaced when they were discovered alone in their car seats in an unlocked van while their father was inside a business shopping for guns.

Jeremy Alcede owns Tactical Firearms in Katy. He called police Saturday and showed KHOU 11 News video of the father inside his store.

The time on Alcede s security system showed the kids were alone for 52 minutes.

Harris County Precinct Deputies investigated, but to Alcede s surprise, the father was not arrested.

The office said it never denied charges, but simply requested additional information. The district attorney source said it did contact CPS.

CPS visited with the child s parents Monday and a judge signed an order for the two to be removed and placed into foster care.

Charges of endangering a child could soon follow.
