HOUSTON It was a tearful reunion Wednesday as an elderly couple that had been missing for more than 30 hours returned home.

I m really happy, said Lorenza Gasca. It s scary, you know, we turned the wrong way.

Lorenza Gasca, 73, and Salomon Gasca, 78, were found safe in Florida Monday evening. The couple went missing about 1 p.m. Sunday in the 21000 block of Oak Ridge Park in Houston after leaving a family get-together.

They were supposed to drive to another relative s home, but never arrived.

The Gascas say they drove for 30 hours trying to find their way home. They didn t call family members, because they didn t want to upset them. They stopped for gas and directions several times. After no sleep, they pulled into a weigh station in Pensacola to get some rest.

I told him let s get in here to rest for a little bit, there are policeman, so we are safe here, Lorenza Gasca recalled. And then the policeman came and put (a) light and said, What are you doing.

The officer checked their names and learned a silver alert had been issued for the Houston couple. The officer called family members.

God helped us, said Salomon Gasca.

Wednesday, family members gathered at a home in Jersey Village to welcome them home.

There were many hugs and plenty of tears.

Thank you, said Lorenza Gasca. I thank everybody.

The Gascas promise if they get lost again, they will call for help.

Family members said both of the Gascas take blood pressure medication, and that Salomon Gasca may have early signs of Alzheimer s disease.

They plan to take both of them to the doctor for medical evaluations.
