HOUSTON -- When NASA's shuttle program ends companies that do business with the space agency will have to come up with new ways to stay in business.

With the end of the shuttle program Houston-based GB Tech is expecting to have to lay off as many as half of its 150 employees.

Now the end of the world has come. What we have known for 25 years or more, that world is coming to an end, said Randy Parker with GB Tech.

GB Tech is working on two government contracts that have nothing to do with space.

We've got to find and create new roads, if you will, for our success for the future it can't be just NASA, he said.

Layoffs are expected once shuttles are grounded in February, but that could be delayed if Congress decides to extend the program.
