GALVESTON, Texas -- George Mitchell s life and many contributions were celebrated by a large crowd on Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church.

The procession marched to Saengerfest Park for the public celebration. Mitchell was remembered for many things.

His kindness and charity for all mankind, said Janel Wagner.

The procession was led by Texas A&M Aggie band members.

Attendees also focused on their historic surroundings.

He s the reason behind Galveston s existence as it looks today, said John Smith.

People described Mitchell as iconic and awe-inspiring.

Mitchell was born and raised in Galveston. He was hailed for always staying true to his hometown, and reviving the Mardi Gras tradition back in the mid-80s.
