GALVESTON, Texas -- The city is bracing for the possibility of increasing its drought contingencies to a higher level in the coming week.

On Tuesday, officials used a citywide alert system to send out a reminder that the city is under Stage 2 restrictions, which limits lawn watering and other activities to two days a week.

City spokeswoman Elizabeth Rogers said that if water level conditions do not improve in the next week, the city will have to move to Stage 3 of its drought contingency plan. Stage 3 limits watering to one day per week. She said if drought conditions continued after that, the city would have to consider moving to a complete ban on watering.
