MISSOURI CITY, Texas -- A 5-year-old girl was hailed a hero by emergency crews in Missouri City after she helped rescue her grandma.

On the afternoon of January 25, Grandma Renee Brown was standing on a ladder trying to hang a swing over a tree in the backyard.

The ladder cracked, said 5-year-old Samantha. Then she got stuck in the tree.

I fell and had to hold onto the tree by my arms, and my phone was down [on the ground], said Grandma Brown, also known as NeNe.

NeNe figures she was stuck about 25-feet off of the ground.

She told me what to call. Then I called 911, said Sam.

At the time Sam was only 4 years old.

After relaying the address in a calm and concise manner, Sam ran out to the front yard and waited for firefighters.

She flagged em in, said NeNe. Flagged them in as they came and brought em back in to me.

She was excellent, said the 911 operator, Christina Barnes.

The response was quick and the whole ordeal only lasted a few minutes.

Nene says she wasn t worried thanks to Sam.

I knew I had it made cause she is so smart, said NeNe.

On April 1, the first day of 911 Education Month, Missouri City and Harris County wanted to salute Samantha White. Officials gave Sam a certificate, some gifts and best of all, a ride in the fire truck.

I m hoping I m not burning down the kitchen anytime soon but if I do, she s the one to call, joked Sam s mom, Rachael Hopkins.
