HOUSTON - A security guard who lost his job weeks ago showed up for work Saturday afternoon and killed his replacement, according to Harris County Sheriff s deputies.

Gregory Griffin was arrested and charged with murder. Bail was set at $50,000, according to court documents.

Deputies said Griffin and the victim, Jose Argueta, 28, worked as commissioned security guards for Texas Pioneer Control Officers, which provided security to businesses at the West Road Plaza, at 1210 West Road, in northeast Houston.

Although Griffin lost his job three weeks ago, investigators said he continued to come back for work and get paid by businesses there.

When he showed up for work at about 2 p.m. on Saturday at the La Veracruzana Meat Market & Taqueria, deputies said he noticed that another guard was working instead of him.

The security guard pulled his weapon and discharged it multiple times into our victim, who unfortunately died on scene, Sgt. Robert Spurgeon, with the Harris County Sheriff s Office, said.

It is still not clear why the guard lost his job, but a customer described him as a quiet and serious person.

Hate to see him in the back of a (police) car, she said. She added he was sometimes at odds with less serious co-workers.
