HOUSTON A 22-year-old man, who was jealous that his ex-girlfriend was in a new relationship, kidnapped the woman and her young son at gunpoint from a home in northwest Houston early Tuesday, according to Houston police.
NIna Merino and her seven-year-old son returned safely to her current boyfriend s family s home looking tired, but relieved.
I just want to say we re fine. It s done with, she said.
When detectives dropped her off, she hugged everybody.
Her current boyfriend was confronted as they slept in the pre-dawn hours in the 1700 block of Ojeman in northwest Houston. The family said the ex-boyfriend, Joseph Vallejo, had a gun and a bad attitude. But the family resisted.
Shoot me. Shoot me. I ain t got nothing to lose. I said, Just don t point the gun toward my parents, And he pointed the gun at everybody in the house, said Gloria Avendado, the sister of the current boyfriend. She said that included children.
The family said Vallejo took Nina and her son to a motel on Houston s northwest side. An Amber Alert went out because of the boy. Police were not releasing details on how they found the mom and son. But the family said Vallejo was about to take the boy to school when police surrounded them.
The boy said the kidnapper did not hurt them.
No, he just had a gun in his hand, the boy said.
Police arrested Vallejo, but they were talking to the district attorney s office about possible charges, including kidnapping.
