ROSHARON, Texas Two people died Wednesday after an accident at a skydiving school in Rosharon, Brazoria County Sheriff s deputies said.

It happened at the Skydive Spaceland School in the 16000 block of FM 521 shortly after 11 a.m.

Witnesses said the two divers' parachutes somehow got tangled together and they fell without inflated chutes from around 100 to 200 feet.

It looked like the shoot partially opened, and that was it, and whoever it was hit the ground hard, said Jim Pearson, a witness.

Other divers attempted to provide first aid until EMS crews arrived.

Spring resident Arthur Bill, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Houstonian Scott James, 27, was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he died.

Skydive Spaceland Manager Jason Hyder said both men had jumped many times before.

These divers were experienced skydivers, he said. I've known them for a few months; they are wonderful people, very excited to be doing what they're doing.

During the past decade Skydive Spaceland has been the site of hundreds of thousands of jumps. Seven of those jumps ended in death.
