HOUSTON – Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has acquired guard/forward Gerald Green from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for guard Kirk Snyder, Houston’s 2010 second-round NBA Draft pick and cash considerations.
Green (6-8, 200, Gulf Shores Academy) has averaged 8.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 142 games (29 starts) with Boston and Minnesota. He also averaged 11.9 points and 4.9 boards per game for Fayetteville and Florida in the D-League in 2005-06. In 29 games this season with the Timberwolves, Green has averaged 5.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 12.3 minutes per game. He notched season highs of 18 points and eight rebounds vs. Golden State (12/19/07), as well as handing out a season-best five assists vs. Indiana (12/21/07).
The 18th overall selection by the Celtics in the 2005 NBA Draft, Green was acquired by Minnesota last summer as part of the deal that sent Kevin Garnett to Boston. Green, who won the 2007 Sprite NBA Slam Dunk contest at All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas, finished as runner-up to Dwight Howard in the 2008 Sprite NBA Slam Dunk contest during NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans. Named a 2004 McDonald’s All-American, Green also captured the McDonald’s Slam Dunk Contest during his high school career.
A two-time All-State selection at Gulf Shores Academy, Green averaged 33.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists his senior season. He also averaged 28.8 points, 13.0 rebounds and 6.0 blocks per game in leading Gulf Shores to a 39-2 record his junior year.
In his second season with Houston, Snyder averaged 3.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists in nine games with the Rockets in 2007-08. Snyder was acquired by Houston from New Orleans/Oklahoma City in exchange for cash and future draft considerations on July 14, 2006.
