Houston Dynamo announce 2008 schedule

01:45 PM CST on Thursday, February 7, 2008

The Houston Dynamo’s road to defending its back-to-back MLS Cup Championships is now set.

Major League Soccer today announced the 2008 Regular Season schedule. The 30-game regular-season includes 15 home games and 15 road games. It opens on Saturday, March 29, when the Dynamo faces off against the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium (6:30 PM). It’s a rematch of the previous two MLS Cup Finals.

2008 Dynamo Schedule

The Men in Orange return home the following Sunday, April 6th to open their home schedule against intrastate rival FC Dallas (2:00 PM). It’s the “Return of the Champions,” presented by Infinity Insurance, and it will feature the rising of the Houston Dynamo 2007 MLS Cup Championship banner and a championship hat giveaway courtesy of Infinity Insurance.

The Dynamo schedule is highlighted by two other marquis matches. They include the Chicago Fire on Sunday, August 31, when Cuauhtémoc Blanco comes to town, and the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday, October 19, when David Beckham makes his only schedule appearance in Houston. The Dynamo expect these two matches, along with the April 6th FC Dallas match, to be sellouts.

The schedule also features matches with some of the Dynamo's biggest rivals. There are two home games with Chivas USA (May 3 & August 20), and a second battle with FC Dallas (June 26). The Dynamo will also host the New England Revolution on Thursday, June 12 (8:00 PM).

Houston will open its MLS season with four of its first five games on the road, and end with four of its last eight at home. The home schedule includes matches on seven Saturdays, five Sundays, two Thursdays, and one Wednesday.
