Texas Southern University has named former Coach Robert Moreland Interim Head Basketball Coach for the 2007 season.

The TSU Tigers have rehired Robert Moreland as Interim Basketball Coach.

If the name sounds familiar, it is. Moreland is the winningest coach in TSU basketball history coaching the Tigers for 26 years. He was the previous coach before stepping down to make way for Ronnie Courtney who's contract expired earlier this year.

In a statement, Interim TSU President J. Timothy Boddie, Jr. commented, "We felt it was important to have a coach on board as expeditiously as possible, at the same time, we realized it was too important of a decision to rush. Having Coach Moreland assume the Interim role allows us time to make a thoughtful search for a permanent coach."

Moreland coached the Tigers to one national championship, 10 SWAC championships, earned 3 NCAA tournament appearances, and produced two SWAC Hall of Fame inductees.

"I am excited to be back at the helm of TSU Men's basketball. I have dedicated my carerr to TSU athletics because of my love for the program and my care and concern for our student athletes."

Coach Moreland will be inducted into the SWAC Hall of Fame December 13, 2007 in Birmingham, Alabama
