The team unveiled its new logo Monday morning.

The city's Major League Soccer team has a new name: Houston Dynamo.

The team unveiled the new logo and name change Monday morning at the Museum of Natural Science.

According to the team's official Web site, the name relate's to the city's history with the dynamo invention. An electric plant on Buffalo Bayou in 1882 was one of the first to use dynamos to bring power.

The team was going to be called Houston 1836 in honor of the year Houston was founded.

But the name rubbed some people the wrong way since it was also the year Texas declared its independence from Mexico.
