Astros take new good luck path

05:54 AM CDT on Tuesday, October 25, 2005

It was a beautiful day in Houston, the kind that makes you want to work in the yard, feed the birds and open the roof and, if you're the Houston Astros, getting ready for Game 3 of the World Series.

"It would kind of take away our home field advantage a little bit in the sense that it's just not what we're used to, so I don't know why they would change it up after we've played so well and played five or six months with it closed," Jason Lane said.

Jason Lane sports the new Astro look.

"To me, it's a joke if we don't get to close it. We've played with it closed all year long. Part of our home field advantage is how loud our fans are," Russ Springer said.

When the roof is closed, the noise meter is off the charts.

"It really feels like sometimes it can shake the opposition," Lane said.

The Astros are trailing the White Sox two games to one in the World Series, but they are trying to stay loose, so it's out with the beards and in with the goatees.

Berkman and Ensberg were already sporting the new look with less hair, but will it be enough to turn the tide in the series?

11 News joked with Phil Garner, telling him that the beards got them to the World Series and now the goatees are going to win it.

"That's exactly right. That's the reason we lost those two games was because we had beards, so we had to go to goatees, " Jeff Bagwell said.

"Whatever we do as a team, I'm in. Shave heads or whatever, I'm in," Springer said.
