Houstonian looks to NBA draft as second chance
08:26 PM CDT on Monday, June 18, 2007
The NBA draft is just around the corner and already many talented young players have a tough decision to make.
Monday was the deadline for potential prospects who haven't hired an agent to decide whether or not to remain in the June 28 draft or return to school.
One Houston native is using his opportunity as a life changing experience.
With representatives from at least 10 NBA teams looking on, former Rockets star John Lucas put his potential draft picks thru drills to show their versatility.
The players who are working out for the NBA scouts are hopeful about their future, but for Sean Williams the future is now.
The Houston native has to make something happen now to impress the pro scouts, because his college days are over thanks to his dismissal from the Boston College team after being caught with marijuana, for a second time.
Before his suspension, the 6-10 Williams was thought to be a potential first round draft pick. The run in with the law however had his stock dropping.
Now, after working with renowned teacher and the drug counselor Lucas he feels he's back on track.
Among those showing interest was Rockets general manager Daryl Morey. Lucas for one believes Williams would be a perfect fit for the Rockets.
