Tennis shoes like these have carried the Sam Houston Bearkats to 128 wins since 2000 making Bob Marlins team number 2 in Texas.

So what's his key to success?

This edition of the Bearkats are lead by former Deer Park standout Ryan Bright

He might look like Opie, but he plays like Yao Ming.

Jejuan Plair Guard

Real crafty ..he scores in so many ways he's tough to guard .

Bob Marlin

We're not the biggest or the most athletic but we play hard and they are smart cerebral group .

The bearkats are a smart basketball team on the court and off this group dominates the all Southland Conference Academic team.

Ryan Bright Forward

It's something we take pride in. Las year five or the guys from the academic all conf. team are from this team .

Bob Marlin

Everyone's accountable , we all want the same thing for their son to walk across the stage in 4 to 5 years with a degree

in their hands .

Besides leading the team in scoring averaging more than 14 a game, Bright's GPA is in the 3.6 range, but sometimes he marches to a different beat.

Most of his teammates listed Gabrielle Union or Julia Roberts as their favorite actress, but not bright.

but i guess he's going strictly off talent ....laughter ........

Somehow I don't think acting talent was the top criteria for his teammates.
