HOUSTON – Family and friends celebrated the life of former Houston Oilers coach O.A. “Bum” Phillips in a memorial service held Tuesday evening at Lakewood Church in Houston.

Phillips passed away at his ranch 9 in Goliad on Oct. 18 at the age of 90.

The service was officiated by former Oilers player Mike Barber and was open to the public as many gathered to honor the coach who guided the team during the Luv Ya Blue era in the 70s.

Special guests included former Oilers players and other NFL legends in attendance.

Phillips was buried Wednesday under an oak tree on his ranch near Goliad. On Sunday, a memorial service was held in Goliad for friends and neighbors.
