Who backs up T.J. Yates if Tom Savage is out?

Tom Savage’s brain injury has repercussions beyond the terrible optics of his reentry into the 49ers game after being obviously concussed. If Houston’s starting quarterback is ruled out against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Texans are in a sticky situation at QB.

Right now, T.J. Yates is the only other quarterback on the 53-man roster. Yates is experienced in the Texans’ system and should be just fine as the starter, but what happens if he gets injured while facing the NFL’s most effective pass rush?

Taylor Heinicke has been on the Texans practice squad for about two weeks. The third-year pro from Old Dominion has never taken a regular-season snap.

That’s all, folks. Braxton Miller was a college quarterback at Ohio State before several serious injuries and surgeries to his throwing shoulder forced a move to wide receiver. He figures to be the emergency option.
