HOUSTON – Houston Texans star Whitney Mercilus and The WithMerci Foundation are raising awareness about autism during National Autism Month.

Throughout the month of April, Mercilus and the foundation have raised awareness through their social media campaign and partnerships in Houston.

The WithMerci Foundation, which was founded by Mercilus in September 2016, assist children with disabilities.

Every year the foundation will focus on a different cause.

“The reason for we’re doing that, of course I wanted to touch (on) everything, every disability, physical, mental and all that, but to give this foundation an identity, we pretty have to give it a stronger focus,” the Texans star said when he stopped by the KHOU 11 Studios Friday morning.

Mercilus said he studied community health, with a concentration in disability/rehabilitation, while at the University of Illinois. He also comes from a family with a background in the medical field.
