In a flurry of roster moves on Wednesday, the Houston Texans promoted three young players from the practice squad to the active 53-man roster.
Undrafted rookie linebackers LaTroy Lewis and Gimel President are now on the main roster. Joining them on the call-up is second-year guard Chad Slade. All three have been on the practice squad since the final roster cutdown.
Lewis signed on with the Texans after failing to make the Oakland Raiders. He has the ability to play either inside or outside linebacker. He fills in for Ben Heeney, who was waived after a disappointing, injury-laden stint with the Texans.
President played well in the preseason game against the Carolina Panthers both on defense and in special teams. He presumably takes Lamarr Houston’s spot on the roster after the veteran was waived.
Slade was in his second season on Houston’s practice squad. He is primarily a guard but has some tackle background.
