Texans fans react to Osweiler trade

Fans at NRG Park and online react to the Houston Texans trading quarterback Brock Osweiler to the Cleveland Browns.

HOUSTON - Brock Osweiler is no longer a Houston Texan.

The team traded the quarterback to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday.

Texans fans at RodeoHouston were overall enthusiastic with the news. They don’t really feel like they’ve gotten much in return for that huge $72 million contract.

The Texans give the Browns a sixth-round draft pick this year and a second-round pick next year, along with Osweiler.

So what does Houston get in return?

A fourth-round draft pick this year from Cleveland.

But they also get out of Osweiler’s gigantic contract and about $10 million in cap space.

“You’re dead serious? We traded Brock?” one fan asked, stunned.

“That’s the only way we’re gonna win something,” said Damon Parker, another fan.

“I love it, I love it. I just hope they can get somebody good to replace him,” said Texans fan Kenneth Hamilton.

“He might leave Houston and become a better quarterback. What happens if he gets into the Super Bowl playing with somebody else? Wouldn’t that be a stinker?” said fan Elijah Leaks.

This leaves the Texans with lot of freed up money they could now throw at Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who is expected to be released or traded by Dallas.

“I like Tony Romo. I think we’d probably have a better chance if we had Romo,” Leaks said.

“I like Tony. I’d like to see Tony Romo come over here and then maybe mentor a young quarterback,” Hamilton agreed.

Some fans, however, aren’t too fond about the possibility of Houston acquiring the 36-year-old quarterback.

“Nah, he too old. They’re gonna hurt him. Fragile. Gonna break him,” Parker said.

“Hope we get a good back surgeon. That’s what we need,” a fan said.

Nobody at NRG Park really questioned Romo’s abilities. Without a doubt, the No. 1 concern fans had was him getting hurt again.

Getting Romo isn’t exactly a slam dunk; the Texans are also competing with the Denver Broncos.
