Police to increase security for Texans-Patriots game

The Massachusetts State Police announced it would bolster security at Gillette Stadium for Thursday’s game between the Houston Texans and New England Patriots in response to the bombing in New York, the stabbings at a Minnesota mall and a shooting rampage in Philadelphia.

“MSP troopers will increase frequency of patrols through public transit stations and regional transportation centers within their barracks jurisdictions, to supplement Transit Police,” Massachusetts State Police said in a statement.

The state police already said it had taken extra security measures for Sunday’s game in Foxborough, Mass, that took place hours after several people were injured in a bombing in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood Saturday evening. That same night, a man stabbed 10 people at mall in St. Cloud, Minn., before he was shot and killed by police.

A woman was killed five and others wounded — including two police officers — in shooting in Philadelphia on Friday night. The suspect died after he was shot by police.

There was no connection between the accused bomber Ahmad Rahami — who was arrested by police in New Jersey on Monday after a shootout — and Massachusetts, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
