HOUSTON - Saturday, The Texans will take the field in Foxborough, Mass., as one of the biggest divisional round underdogs since the turn of the century.
Las Vegas odds makers are betting the Patriots will beat the Texans by 15 points, but there’s always a chance.
After the Boston Celtics beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2008 NBA Finals, Kevin Garnett said it best.
“Anything is possible,” Garnett said.
Of course, the Celtics had better than a 9-percent chance of winning the clinching game. The Texans don’t have that luxury.
According to William Hill Sports Betting, the Texans’ 9-percent chance of winning is among the smallest NFL probabilities ever. Even the Chicago Cubs had a 15-percent chance of coming back from a 3-1 deficit to win the World Series. FiveThirtyEight.com gave Donald Trump a better chance of winning the presidency.
The news isn’t all bad for the Texans. For Houston, 9 percent is actually one of the better probabilities the city has.
Vegas gives the Rockets a 3-percent chance of winning it all this year. The Astros have an 8-percent shot of capturing their first title since...ever!
If you’re looking for a glimmer of hope, picture this: Some betting lines gave the U.S.A. a less than 1-percent chance of beating the Soviet Union in 1980. Sure, it was a miracle on ice, but anything is possible.
