HOUSTON – The Texans suffered a miserable loss in the opener, falling at home to Jacksonville 29-7. Adding injury to the insulting ignominy, several Texans left the game with injuries and did not return.
Linebacker Brian Cushing is the most notable, departing with a concussion. He was playing in his 100th career game with the Texans.
He wasn’t alone on the Texans in suffering a brain injury. Wide receiver Bruce Ellington left with a suspected concussion. Tight ends C.J. Fiedorowicz and Ryan Griffin both suffered concussions and were ruled out as well.
This is a terrible development for Houston, which has a short turnaround before facing the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday night. Replacing one might be doable but shaking up the lineup with as many as four new players on a short work week is a real big challenge.
