Cross one name off the list for potential replacements for Texans GM Rick Smith.
Brian Gutekunst has elected to remain with the Green Bay Packers instead of pursuing the position in Houston.
Brian Gutekunst came to Houston Saturday and was supposed to interview today but accepted job to remain with Packers, I'm told. He wanted the GM job at Green Bay. Never had official interview with Texans.— John McClain (@McClain_on_NFL) January 7, 2018
Per McClain, Gutekunst did not formally interview with the Texans. He was scheduled to audition for Smith’s vacant position on Sunday but returned to the Packers to accept a greater role with his current organization.
He is one of six candidates identified as potential successors to Smith, who is on indefinite leave while his wife battles breast cancer.
