Brian Cushing back with Texans, still not activated

Brian Cushing’s 10-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy ended on Tuesday.

The linebacker rejoined the Houston Texans, though he has not yet been activated by the team.

According to the terms of his suspension, the Texans have a full week to decide what to do with the veteran starter. He remains on the roster exemption list.

Texans coach Bill O’Brien was noncommittal about the team’s plans with Cushing, who was Houston’s first-round pick back in 2009.

“He’s been away from us for a while, obviously,” O’Brien said in his Tuesday press conference. “First things first, just personally we got to get caught up, see where he’s at, see how he’s doing, and then kind of go from there. Great guy, you guys know what I feel about Brian Cushing.”

Rookies Zach Cunningham and Dylan Cole have played well in Cushing’s absence. This was his second suspension for PEDs. He also suffered a concussion prior to the suspension but appeared healed according to numerous reports.
