CHENG QIAO, China (AP) — Olympic hopeful Shelly Olds emerged from a group sprint to win the World Cup event in China on Sunday, bolstering her case for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.
Olds went head-to-head with Australia's Melissa Hoskins and Monia Baccaille of Italy over the final 300 meters of the course from Pudong to Chongming Island. The American pulled ahead at the finish to win the fifth round of the World Cup series in 3 hours, 11 minutes, 51 seconds.
Hoskins finished second and Baccaille was third, both with the same time.
It was the second straight World Cup win for an American rider after Evelyn Stevens took La Fleche Wallonne last month in Belgium. Dutch rider Marianne Vos remains the overall leader.
