Johnny Manziel reinstated by NFL after suspension

Anybody want Johnny Manziel?

The NFL informed clubs Wednesday that the troubled free-agent quarterback’s four-game suspension for violating the substance abuse policy has been lifted as scheduled, a person with access to the league’s internal transaction wire told USA TODAY Sports.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because that information isn’t disseminated publicly.

Manziel, 23, already was free to sign anywhere after the Cleveland Browns dropped him in March and he cleared waivers. But it remains to be seen when or if the onetime Heisman Trophy winner gets another opportunity, given all the chances he’s already blown in the NFL.

Manziel also remains subject to discipline by the NFL under its personal conduct policy. He was indicted in April on a misdemeanor assault charge stemming from an incident with an ex-girlfriend.

Manziel has two accrued seasons, so he's eligible for a practice squad exception and could sign for as little as $6,900 a week.
