HOUSTON—Houston Texans linebacker Tim Dobbins has been fined $30,000 for what the league is deeming a helmet-to-helmet hit that gave Chicago’s Jay Cutler a concussion. Needless to say, he wasn’t happy to get the letter from the league notifying him of the fine. "I was very shocked," said Dobbins on Wednesday after practice. "That’s a lot of zeroes on that paper." The tackle which provoked the fine came in the second quarter of the Texans’ 13-6 win on Sunday night. Dobbins maintains that he didn’t realize that Cutler was throwing the ball. "It’s way too high and I didn’t even do anything wrong. I’m not a dirty player," said Dobbins. "I’m disappointed. I didn’t know if he was going to run the ball or if he was going to pass the ball. I felt like he was past the line and I tried to get a clean hit on him and it just didn’t work out." Cutler was past the line of scrimmage and called for an illegal forward pass on the play, and Dobbins was flagged for unnecessary roughness. "I felt like it was a clean hit until I looked at the film," said Dobbins. "I mean, it looked like I got a little bit of the helmet but I definitely didn’t try to." Dobbins said he is appealing the fine through his agent.
