HOUSTON – Houston Texans line backer Tim Dobbins was the only veteran on the team that missed the "so-called" voluntary organized team activities the last three weeks.
It might say voluntary but every players knows he better be there.
Tim Dobbins missed all the practices being unhappy with the contract that he signed during the off-season. Some of his teammates may not be thrilled with the money they’re making but they showed up.
So, what was Dobbins doing during OTAs?
"I’ve been renovating my whole house," said Dobbins. "I’ve been trying to work on it myself and trying to learn another skill. I definitely missed out on some things, but I’ve been learning some names and seeing some new faces on this team."
Well, that’s a good excuse.
I’m sure none of his teammates had anything they needed to do at home. They’re sweating it out at camp while he is fixing up his house.
"I’m pretty sure I let some of the guys down," said Dobbins. "I hope they understand."
I asked him if his absence was a statement that he thought he should be paid more.
"No, it wasn’t a statement," said Dobbins. "I have nothing against this franchise or this organization. I appreciate the contract they gave me, but as a person, you always want more you know? But it was definitely nothing with that at all."
I guarantee you Gary Kubiak isn’t happy with Dobbins missing time and he will let him know it, but when we spoke to Dobbins they hadn’t talked.
"I’m sure it’s not going to be polite and already know how he feels about the whole situation," said Dobbins. "I feel disappointed in myself but it was nothing I could do about it. It was something I had to do for my family."
I’m sure he had to stay and renovate that house for his family.
