HOUSTON – The Houston Rockets welcomed back their head coach Kevin McHale Saturday night after a month away from the team.
McHale took a leave of absence from the team on Nov. 10 to be with his family in Minnesota. On Nov. 24, his daughter Alexandra “Sasha” McHale, 23, passed away after she had been battling an auto-immune disorder complicated by lupus.
McHale rejoined the team Saturday night for their game against the Dallas Mavericks.
Assistant coach Kelvin Sampson handled the head coaching duties in McHale’s absence.
The Rockets were not the only ones who welcomed back McHale.
In one of the more touching scenes of the evening, every player from the Dallas Mavericks team came over and gave McHale a hug before the start of the game.
