HOUSTON – The Oklahoma City Thunder have traded reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year to the Houston Rockets in exchange for guard Kevin Martin, rookie Jeremy Lamb and three future draft selections.

In addition to Harden, the Rockets will get Cole Aldridge, Lazar Hayward and Daequan Cook.

"We are very excited with tonight’s (Saturday) trade," said Rockets Owner Leslie Alexander. "While I never like having to send out quality players like Kevin Martin and Jeremy Lamb, this trade gives us a chance to make an immediate impact on the future of our franchise moving forward."

According to a report on Yahoo! Sports, Harden and Oklahoma City had been working to get a contract extension done in the past few weeks, but were unable to reach an agreement.

Harden, who is only 23 years old, was a key piece to the Thunder’s run to the NBA Finals last season. He averaged 16.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game coming off the bench for OKC.

"James Harden was part of Team USA’s gold medal team at the London Olympics and is one of the most skilled shooting guards in the NBA," said Alexander. "James, along with the mix of young players we already have in place such as Jeremy Lin, Chandler Parsons and Omer Asik give us a very solid group of young, talented players who will form the core of our team."

Martin was one of the few veterans left after the Rockets’ fire sale over the off-season. Last season, he averaged 17.1 points per game, but missed time due to injury. His new teammate Jeremy Lamb was sad to see him go.

"Really sad to see Kmart and JLamb go...both class acts and great teammates," Lin said on Twitter.

However, Lin was quick to welcome the new players as well.

"Welcome Harden, Cook, Aldrich and Hayward to Houston!" said Lin.

As a Rocket, Martin averaged 21.3 points, 2.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 144 games.

Jeremy Lamb was drafted by the Rockets with the 12th overall selection in this summer’s NBA Draft. Lamb led Houston’s NBA Summer League team in scoring, averaging 20.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.00 steals in five games.
