KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — Right-hander Bud Norris will start for the Houston Astros in the major league season opener against Texas Rangers on March 31.

The Astros announced Wednesday that Norris will throw the first pitch of the season. The Astros will host Texas in their first game since joining the American League in that Sunday night opener.

Norris was 7-13 last year. He is 2-0 with a 5.52 ERA in four spring training starts.

Lucas Harrell will start the second game for Houston against the Rangers on April 2.

The Astros said pitchers Jordan Lyles and John Ely have been optioned to Triple-A. Lyles, who had been expected to be in the rotation, went 0-3 with a 17.74 ERA in five spring games.
