HOUSTON -- At 5-foot-5, Jose Altuve is the shortest player in the majors.
He has been a big reason for some of the early season success for the Houston Astros. The second baseman entered Thursday fourth in the National League with a .358 batting average. He was first in the NL with 13 multi-hit games and third with 34 hits.
Altuve has the best batting average and most hits for a second baseman in either league and his .404 on base percentage is also tops at his position.
He’s already gained a fan in Craig Biggio, who spent most of his two decades with the Astros manning second base before retiring in 2007.
