HOUSTON – Houston Astros manager Bo Porter confirmed on Tuesday night that outfielder Justin Maxwell was a fractured left hand and will head to the 15-day disabled list.

The Astros have called up outfielder Robbie Grossman from Oklahoma City.

Maxwell was at the plate with the bases loaded in the 3rd inning when he was hit by a pitch by Seattle Mariners pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma. Maxwell was replaced by Brandon Barnes in the next inning and was taken for X-rays. The tests showed a fracture in his left hand which means a trip to the DL.

The Astros won the game 3-2.

On Twitter, Maxwell said "Wish I didn’t have a broken hand, but wouldn’t trade it for an RBI that helped lead to an important @Astros W. Praying for speedy recovery."

The young outfielder is hitting .234 with 1 home run and 6 RBI’s this season.

Robbie Grossman came to the Astros in the Wandy Rodriguez trade to Pittsburgh. Grossman, a Cy- Fair High School graduate batted .267 with a .371 OBP in 36 games at Double-A Corpus Christi in 2012.
