HOUSTON – The Astros beloved mascot is on his way out.

At every home game for 23 years Dennis Bartel has gone into to his room off right field and transformed into Junction Jack.

“I enjoy making people smile, I’m that kind of person outside the costume too, I want to see everybody happy,” he said.

By day, Bartel is a teacher with Galena Park ISD working with high-risk children.

He even has four kids of his own who have grown up watching their dad make Astros fans smile.

Come next season, the team will debut a new look and logo.

The search for a new mascot is already underway.

“It’s a sad moment, I’ve been dreading this day, but it’s time,” he said.
