BERLIN (AP) — Fortuna Duesseldorf moved closer to returning to the Bundesliga for the first time since 1996-97, winning 2-1 at Hertha Berlin on Thursday night in the first leg of their promotion-relegation playoff.
Roman Hubnik put the hosts ahead in the 19th minute, but Thomas Broeker tied it in the 64th and Fortuna took the lead on Adrian Ramos' own goal in the 71st.
The second leg of the total-goals series is Tuesday in Duesseldorf.
Hertha finished 16th in the Bundesliga, and Duesseldorf was third in the second division. The playoff winner will be in the Bundesliga next season and the loser in the second tier.
