HOUSTON - They say there is no place like home. However, for the past 30 years, home for Texas Southern football has taken on many forms.

"We’ve played at the University of Houston, the old Astrodome, Reliant Stadium," says TSU Athletic Director Charles McClelland. "We’ve even played at Delmar stadium which is a high school facility and we’ve played games right here on campus at Durley Field."

That constant moving has definitely made building a solid program a tall order.

"It’s very difficult to recruit great football players when you don’t have the facilities for them to play in," says McClelland.

"It’s kind of hard playing at smaller stadiums and we can’t get everybody in," says Tiger defensive captain Curtis Thomas.

That won’t be a problem anymore as starting in 2012, Texas Southern will call the new Houston Dynamo Stadium home as well.

"Everyone is still in some sort of shock mode that this is something that is actually going to come to fruition for Texas Southern University," says McClelland.

Durley Field has served it’s purpose over the years, but when you compare 3,500 seats to 22,000, that is a decision that the new administration here at TSU couldn’t pass up.

"We are going to get 100% of our ticket sales," says McClelland.

And now that the Tigers are coming off their first winning seasons in 10 years, those tickets could be going fast.

"You know, I am right where I want to be with the football program," says Tiger head coach Johnnie Cole. "We’re growing each and every year and we look forward to when the stadium opens up."

"The Tigers will finally have a home to call their own for many years to come," says McClelland.
