RUSTENBURG, South Africa (AP) — Ivory Coast became the first nation to advance to the African Cup of Nations quarterfinals, beating Tunisia 3-0 Saturday night on goals by Gervinho, Yaya Toure and Didier Ya Konan.
With the Elephants resting Didier Drogba, Gervinho put Ivory Coast ahead in the 21st minute. Toure scored in the 87th, and Ya Konan got the final goal in injury time.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Emmanuel Adebayor scored in the 32nd minute and Dove Wome in second-half injury time to help Togo defeat Algeria 2-0. The game was interrupted for 15 minutes because of a broken goalpost. Algeria coach Vahid Halilhodzic kicked a ball in the direction of referee Hamada Nampiandraza of Madagascar after a penalty kick was not awarded in his team's favor.
Ivory Coast (2-0) leads Group D with six points, followed by Togo and Tunisia (both 1-1) with three apiece. Algeria (0-2) is last. The top two nations advance to the final eight.
